Apostille Korea said that when an international driving permit is lost abroad, an application through its app covers proxy issuance and delivery to the holder location. With express shipping selected, the document can arrive at the holder accommodation two days after the application. The company said it carries out the work on the basis of the rule allowing issuance of civil documents to be delegated to a third party in unavoidable circumstances.

How long it used to take to get a document abroad
Until a few years ago, losing an international driving permit abroad left no option other than asking an acquaintance in Korea to obtain a replacement. That person had to take the identification and power of attorney mailed from overseas to a police station or a driving licence test centre before a new permit could be issued. Adding the time to ship the permit back abroad, even a smooth case needed more than a week. People who urgently needed the permit, or who had no one in Korea to ask, not infrequently ended up boarding a flight home.
